An old-fashioned billiarty, an instrument used in the 1920s and 30s for table tennis, is the subject of a bid to become the first of its kind in Israel.
The new billiarts are being made by Israeli-based company Sion, which is aiming to offer them to Israel’s recreational players.
“We have a big opportunity in Israel, but in order to have the right product in the market, we need to find a partner that will bring the best quality of product to the market,” said Sion CEO Shlomo Ben-Shaul.
Sion will be the first billiar manufacturer in Israel to manufacture the instrument, which will also be available for use in the United States, the Middle East and Europe.
Ben-SHaul added that Sion’s new billiard, which can be played with a straight stick, has the same design and dimensions as a billiard table, and will cost $200,000.
The company plans to produce the new billiar at a new factory in Herzliya, a city on the Mediterranean coast, in the next six to nine months.
The billiard is currently being developed at Sion in a bid for a global market.
The main disadvantage is that there is no central supply chain to export the product, said Ben-SHAUL.
“In order to make a good product, the quality of the product has to be excellent, which means the equipment has to meet our strict specifications.
So the best solution is to make it in Israel,” he said.
“The company is planning to sell it for around $60,000,” he added.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to be a player in the game, as we will be able to play the product in an international market.”
Ben-SANCHEZ and his brother have been playing billiars for more than 40 years.
They are now looking forward to the new project, which they hope will allow them to enjoy their hobby more than ever.
“This will be a new experience for us, a new hobby that we will love,” said Ben Sanchez.
“Now we will go out to the park, and play for a while,” he joked.
