India’s top entertainment awards are set to be held in a couple of weeks, with many of the big names on the docket this year.
As we reported last week, the awards are due to be televised in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, with all major films getting their nominations in that state.
The Indian film industry has traditionally been dominated by Hindi movies, and in 2017, the Bollywood industry had its best year ever in terms of box office and revenue, raking in $4.6 billion from domestic and overseas releases.
This year, the industry seems to be gearing up for another year of growth, with some of the major Indian releases hitting the screens on April 5, 2019.
As for the 2017 awards, the big winners included the best actor award for Rajinikanth, and actress actress of the year for Meryl Streep.
However, there were also some big disappointments, with Bollywood movies like “The Salesman”, “Bhagat Singh: A Tale of Two Sons”, “Namo”, “Rajinikantan” and “Sikhistan” all not making the cut.
