When President Bill Clinton was elected, he chose the White House Rose Garden for his first official function.
But, unlike other presidents, he wasn’t given a state dinner.
Instead, he was given a private reception.
“When I left the White Senate and walked into the Rose Garden, I looked at the marble and said, ‘I want to get back to my hotel,'” Clinton said.
“And I said, well, I know there are people who have to wait in line for an hour.
And I said I have to get to the White Tower and the White Commons.”
